On November 22, 2022, the producers met 400 top sommeliers, hoteliers and wine merchants. For 24 hours, Neustadt became the world capital of the fine wine scene.
Eight superstars from California
This year at the summit meeting of the international wine elite, California was in the spotlight: Eight superstars from Harlan Estate to Ridge Vineyards took centre stage.
And more top wineries from around the world
Another 100 top wineries spread out in the large concert hall. With 30 wineries from Germany, 24 from France and 18 from Italy, these three countries were the most represented. But also the best of their guild from Spain, Austria, Portugal, Greece, Australia and Switzerland had arrived for the annual summit meeting with the most renowned sommeliers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as leading wine merchants.
Well-known international wineries such as Château de Beaucastel, Krug Champagne, Álvaro Palacios, Roagna, Casanova di Neri, Henschke and Biondi-Santi were represented, as were the German winegrowing elite around Dr. Bürklin-Wolf, H. Dönnhoff, Rudolf Fürst and Van Volxem, to name just four examples.
All together, they provided magnificent wines, some of them extremely rare, of which only a few bottles are available on the market.
Organized by Meininger's Sommelier
Sascha Speicher, editor-in-chief of Meininger's Sommelier, was responsible for the event. Meininger's Finest 100 also benefits from the reputation of the Sommelier Summit, which as usual took place the day before.
"It is a dream come true that we have succeeded in establishing this event here in the heart of the Palatinate (Pfalz) in recent years. The great visitor interest - even beyond our state borders - shows that you don't have to go to a metropolis of millions with such an event. Quite the opposite: here, the message of artisan, origin-based top wines can be conveyed much more credibly than far away from the wine-growing regions," Sascha Speicher stressed.
