Our sister publication WEINWIRTSCHAFT has been organising a tasting for German, Italian and French cooperatives for many years. Now the tasting is being opened up to co-operatives from other countries. This means that e.g. co-operatives from Spain, Austria, Luxembourg, Eastern Europe and overseas can also take part in the tasting and compete internationally.

The comparability of the companies is made possible by the fact that, in addition to the qualitative evaluation of the wines, further economic criteria are included. For example, a wine will receive bonus points for its price-performance ratio, its market significance based on production figures and the economic importance of the product for the co-operative.

In view of these additional criteria, the other rules will be opened up. In future, a co-operative will have a free choice of the six wines it puts forward for tasting. Six noble sweet wines could then have a qualitative advantage, but could fall behind in view of their low economic importance. On the other hand, a very good base wine that is a million-seller can score additional points for the company.

In addition to the world ranking list of cooperatives, Meininger's International Cooperative Contest will honour the best cooperatives from well-represented growing regions as well as the best wines in various categories. The wines will be honoured solely on the basis of quality criteria.

To participate, a winegrowers' cooperative must register its wines by 5 July 2024 at Meininger's International Cooperative Contest 2024.
