Thirty top tasters came together at the Meininger publishing house, to taste and rate more than 450 wines, under the expert guidance of Spanish wine specialists Christoph Nicklas and David Schwarzwälder. The tasters came from a total of 11 different countries, bringing an extraordinary diversity of viewpoints with them, yet they shared three specific qualities: extensive tasting experience, a deep knowledge of Spanish wines, and a passion for tasting and discovery.
Finally, after plenty of debate, the top 100 wines were chosen. These wines were then sorted into their various price categories. On the final tasting day, out came the wines again, and the Master Jury dove back into them. This time they created details descriptions of each wines, and chose one category winner in each price range.
These outstanding wines received the prestigious ‘GRAND GOLD – Wines from Spain Awards’ medal. All the other wines that reached the final now have the right to display the ‘GOLD – Wines from Spain Awards TOP 100 Winner’ medal.
The champions, winners, and those which have won three special awards—Best Wine of the Competition, Best Organic Wine, and Best Discovery Wine—will be presented at the ICEX booth during ProWein 2025. Highlights include an awards ceremony for the wineries and a guided tasting of the GRAND GOLD winners by David Schwarzwälder (Monday, March 17, at 1:00 pm), an exploration of exciting discoveries from the tasting led by German writer Christoph Nicklas at the Meininger booth, as well as in the open tasting area at the ICEX booth.
Following ProWein, the award-winning wines will be featured in both consumer and trade publications and showcased at the WFS AWARDS events throughout the year. Additionally, the winners will be presented online through a detailed and highly flexible tasting catalogue on Bottlebooks, as well as across various Meininger media channels.
Along with the presentations at ProWein in Düsseldorf, the wines will be showcased at events in the UK, USA, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Japan.
If you're at any of these events, take the opportunity to delve into some of the best wines of Spain. They are a gateway into centuries of history and tradition, paired with the energy of a winemaking industry that has embraced bold innovation and transformative progress in recent years.
