Champagne house Pommery is launching its first-ever collaboration with Japanese rockstar and composer, Yoshiki. The company announced the release of "Y by Yoshiki x Champagne Pommery Brut," a champagne that has been in joint development since 2019. The exclusive unveiling took place on July 14, 2023, at the luxurious hotel Waldorf Astoria Berlin, attended by specially invited guests.
This marks the company's first venture into a partnership with an internationally renowned musician. In Japan, the blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, sourced from a total of 40 different vineyards in the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims regions, was already introduced in September 2022. Reportedly, the limited batch of 10,000 bottles sold out within ten minutes. In Europe the wine retailed for an RRP of €200.
Success beyond music
Yoshiki, known for not only his music but also his own fashion collection "Yoshikimono," has been involved in the wine industry since 2009. In California's Napa Valley, he collaborates with winemaker Robert Mondavi Jr. to produce a white wine and two red wines, which have now become among Japan's best-selling premium wines.
For Yoshiki, this is also his first collaboration with a champagne house. He expressed, "Creating my own champagne is a dream come true for me. Partnering with Pommery, one of the world's finest champagne houses, is truly an honor." In Japan, a line extension in the form of a rosé champagne will be launched at the end of November 2023.
This collaboration is another instance of a prestigious champagne house teaming up with a music icon. In April 2021, Dom Perignon announced its partnership with Lady Gaga.
