Spanish authorities arrested a woman at the end of June, accusing her of sabotaging the facilities of the Bodegas Cepa 21 winery on February 18. According to the Spanish news agency Europa Press, the woman’s employment at Cepa 21 had ended just a few days before the incident. The act, which resulted in 60,000 liters of premium wine being drained and an estimated damage of €2.5m, was quickly deemed an act of revenge by the media. There was also early suspicion that the perpetrator might have been someone familiar with the winery.

The details of the incident suggest that the individual had a thorough knowledge of the premises. Additionally, the perpetrator used a key to enter the building and knew how to disable the alarm system. These details have only recently been disclosed.

The suspect has been released, as the prosecutor's office determined there was no risk of her fleeing. Investigators are now trying to determine whether the suspect acted alone or had accomplices. MS
