While Australian exports grew by 8 percent in volume over 2005, value was up by only 1% in 2006, according to the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation. This result highlights the cost of draining the Australian wine lake through cheap bulk exports
and although exportsto Sweden grew from twelve to 16 million litres to total 52 million Australian dollars, sales to China rose from only four to 21 million litres without the same corresponding value. A full report on this development will appear in the next issue of Wine Business International later this month.
