BWW has been growing annually, leading to the expansion of the event. The 2025 edition, taking place from February 3 to 5, will extend across two halls at the Fira Barcelona exhibition grounds. This marks a 31% increase in size, covering nearly 10,000 square meters, an 80% rise compared to the first edition in 2020.

Javier Pagés, president of Barcelona Wine Week (BWW) and D.O. Cava, said that Spain's quality wine sector has reaffirmed its commitment to the fair, filling the expanded event space. Pagés highlighted that the fair's success stems from its ability to attract influential importers, dealers, and wine buyers from around the globe, ensuring a profitable experience for all participants.

With over 1,100 wineries from across Spain confirming their attendance—a 16% increase compared to 2024—the event is already fully booked. BWW expects more than 24,000 visitors, 20% of whom will travel from abroad. Alongside the larger exhibition space, the roster of invited international guests is also growing.

Exploring new markets for Spanish wine

On December 3, 2024 experts, wineries, and industry representatives discussed at the ICEX headquarters in Madrid about the current state of the sector and identified trends and opportunities for the future. A key focus of the event was the importance of expanding into new international markets. María Naranjo, Director of the Food and Beverage Industry at ICEX, outlined promising export opportunities for Spanish wineries in 2025. She emphasized the strong growth potential in markets such as South Korea, Japan, Poland, Ireland, Denmark, and the Dominican Republic, encouraging Spanish producers to seize these emerging opportunities.

According to the latest report from Spain's market observation institute OEMV, Spain exported around 1.2bn liters of wine worth approximately €3bn in the first eight months of 2024. Despite a declining trend, Spain remains the largest exporter by volume and the third-largest exporter by value in the world. The main buyers include Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, Japan, and Mexico. MM
