The regional government of the Canary Islands has allocated €1.4m in aid for the island group's winemakers. These funds, sourced from EU grants, aim to help winemakers remain competitive despite their geographical disadvantages.

The significant distance between the Canary Islands and mainland Europe leads to substantial additional costs. These arise not only from transporting wines to European markets but also from the increased expenses associated with importing machinery and other materials by sea. Furthermore, logistics within the island group itself present additional challenges for winemakers.

This aid is designated solely for wineries that grow and bottle wines with protected designations of origin on the islands. Similar assistance was provided in previous years to wineries in the Azores. MS
