European Bulk Wine Market: Spain Nearly out of Stock

The small 2023 harvest has left Spain with low stocks of all styles, especially white. But a normal-size crop this year should remedy the situation. Despite the shortages, red wine prices are still falling, thanks to poor demand.

Due to the historically low harvest, rosé wine is as good as sold out on the Spanish bulk wine market and white wines are also more than scarce. While Iberian red wine prices are slowly falling due to global sales problems, white wine prices are at least stable and in some cases rising.

However, a largely normal volume is expected again for the coming harvest. With the exception of very dry Catalonia, there was rainfall in almost all regions over Easter, which will take the pressure of the drought off for the time being.

The poor availability of Spanish (but also Italian) white wines means that Vin de France from the south of France, without any indication of the grape variety, is becoming a sought-after commodity - prices are likely to rise significantly in the near future.

Domestic buyers in particular, who normally buy Spanish bulk wine, are now moving away. In contrast, a very sluggish market and no price changes are being reported from Italy.
