While the annual Hospice de Beaune auction makes headlines, the Burgundy wine trade association "Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne" (BIVB) is planning a special auction. Following the update of the vineyard signage in 2023, around 600 signs, divided into 300 lots, will be auctioned on November 12 on the websites drouot.com and interencheres.com, according to the association. Interested parties can also follow the auction in Beaune via live stream provided by the auction houses.

The signs include 29 Grand Cru, 280 Régionale or Village appellations, and 280 "Bourgognes" signs featuring the distinctive "B" logo. The signs are available for viewing at the auction houses but are partially weathered.

The auction is aimed at wine enthusiasts and professionals who wish to bring a piece of Burgundy into their homes or businesses. An original Grand Cru sign could make a striking addition to a Burgundy section in a specialty store, providing customers with a sense of authenticity. The proceeds will benefit the development of cultural activities at the Cité des Climats et Vins de Bourgogne.
