The Greek wine giant Greek Wine Cellars D. Kourtakis S.A. (GWC) is entering into a new strategic partnership with Limnos Organic Wines. As reported by GWC, it has been agreed that the company will take over the exclusive distribution of Limnos Organic Wines both domestically and internationally.
Limnos Organic Wines was founded in 2002 on the island of Limnos, focusing on dry, semi-dry, and sweet wines made from the grape varieties Muscat of Alexandria and Limnio - the latter allegedly being Aristotle's favorite grape. Assyrtiko, Fokiano, as well as dessert and sparkling wines are also produced here, along with the spirit Tsipouro.
"The collaboration with Limnos Organic Wines and their high-quality, competitive products is of particular significance to us, as it is connected with one of the most important wine-producing regions in Greece. Limnos Organic Wines, truly representing this unique terroir, have all the resources through this collaboration to seize the leading position they deserve both in the Greek and international markets," says Dimitris Kourtakis, President and Managing Director at GWC. The main export markets for Limnos wines are Germany and Canada, especially Quebec, where there is a great demand for organic wine, explains GWC Export Director Kostas Theodoridis to the German trade magazine Weinwirtschaft,
GWC was founded in the late 19th century under the name Kourtaki and is one of the largest wine companies in Greece, with an annual turnover of around €25m. Recently, the collaboration with the cooperative winery Santo Wines from Santorini was terminated, which then switched to the largest competitor, Cavino. Now, GWC has introduced new wines from island regions into its portfolio.
"As Limnos Organic Wines has Assyrtiko from a volcanic terroir in the Aegean, we expect that the sales achieved by GWC with Santorini wines will be completely replaced by Limnos Organic Wines sales in a very short time," says Kostas Theodoridis.
