Erni Loosen, one of the most prominent ambassadors of German Riesling, is launching three wines to the Place de Bordeaux, as reported by The Drinks Business. They consist of a dry Grosses Gewächs (GG), a light Kabinett, and an Auslese, the latter exhibiting some Botrytis influence. These wines are produced by Erni Loosen using the same methods as his great-grandfather, and they are marketed under the estate name “Zach. Bergweiler-Prüm Erben.” The estate, named after his grandfather, was not continued when Erni Loosen took over the business in 1988.
All three wines originate from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard, sourced from specially selected plots. Loosen practices non-interventionist viticulture, avoiding pesticides and adhering to traditional vine training and manual labor, as it was done 130 years ago when Zacharias Bergweiler-Prüm gained international recognition for his wines.
According to The Drinks Business, the wines will be available through the following négociants: Barrière Frères, Compagnie Médociane des Grands Crus, Crus et Domaines de France, CVBG, Ulysse Cazabonne, and Twins.
Battenfeld-Spanier was the first German winery to start selling a wine through the prestigious French fine wine marketplace in 2022, followed by Markus Molitor's Domäne Serrig, Robert Weil, and now Loosen. MS
