Under the slogan of "Simplifions!" (Let us simplify), the French Minister of Agriculture, Dominique Bussereau, launched a campaign last year to reduce red tape in the country s beaurocracy. Part of this campaign, which is now
bearing fruit, is directly aimed at winemakers and merchants: simplifying plantings in appellations and easing their declassification.
Analysts worry that the minister will leave his post in May, when a new French president is elected, but note that the technostructure that is blocking such schemes will remain in place.
