Vranken Pommery Surpasses Previous Revenue

In 2023, the Champagne giant Vranken Pommery Monopole achieved a consolidated revenue of €338.4m, surpassing its 2022 revenue by 1.2%. The company reported the most significant growth (6.2% to €27.4m) in its Provence and Camargue operations, largely due to a strong performance in the second half of the year, while the core business in Champagne saw a revenue increase of 1% to €290.7m.
 

Against the grain

This modest growth has brought satisfaction to the conglomerate, especially as it was achieved against the backdrop of a declining overall trend for Champagne, which saw an 8.2% decrease. The company attributes this success to adjusted pricing strategies. Sales increases in French retail and international travel retail (duty-free shops, onboard dining, etc.) have offset decreased demand in other EU countries, with the export share remaining stable at 65% thanks to strong performance in the UK, North America, and Asia.

Sales of Port and Douro wines saw a slight increase due to strong domestic demand and growth in Northern Europe. The brand's sparkling wines produced in England, California, and the Camargue, under the "Louis Pommery" label, also saw a 9% increase in sales, driven by robust demand in the Benelux countries.
 

Missed targets

Despite setting an initial target of 5% revenue growth for 2023 after a 4.4% increase in the first half of the year, the company fell short of this goal. However, Vranken Pommery still ranks impressively among the world's largest sparkling wine producers. The company will publish final figures for the fiscal year 2023 in its annual report at the end of March.
