Some of the world’s biggest commercial brands are built during the toughest times, when producers are able to create new brands, or refresh old ones, because bulk wine and spirits are available at competitive prices.
And now that period of opportunity has come round again.
This is why so many people — more than 3,000 trade visitors! — are heading to this year’s World Bulk Wine Exhibition (WBWE) in Amsterdam in November, because it’s the place to be for opportunity.
Getting a grip on the market
In order to take full advantage of the many opportunities offered by bulk wine and spirits, it’s important to understand how this segment of the market works. That’s why the WBWE offers a program of short, informative seminars and talks.
One very significant session, on the first day of the fair, is a session on how bulk wine can build both efficiency and profitability. This panel, hosted by The Vine Strategy Group, will explore how bulk wine can drive sustainability, reduce carbon footprints, and optimise global supply chains.
Come along to learn more about how to save money, improve logistics and enhance profitability.
Not only that, but the expert panel will discuss how bulk shipping improves sustainability — a critical topic given that both consumers and buyers at major outlets are now demanding that their wines are sustainable.
Bulk shipping offers an easy sustainability win, because shipping in bulk lowers the carbon footprint dramatically, while preserving freshness and flavour.
After lunch on the same day, experts Florian Ceschi of Ciatti Europe, one of the world’s biggest bulk wine brokers, and Horst Mueller, Global Head of Vinlog by Kuehne + Nagel, the shipping firm, will reveal how bulk shipping works, and all about freight costs. Immediately afterwards, Alison Leavitt, the Managing Director of the Wine and Spirits Shipping Association, will talk about how to manage cargo flows and risks.
Giving consumers what they want
Consumer choices are changing rapidly, with a growing demand for low- and no-alcohol wines emerging.
The Silent Tasting room, where hundreds of wine samples are waiting to be poured, is the place to find lower alcohol wines. More than 20 producers will be at the exhibition, showcasing their no- and low products.
Jean-Luc Favarel, the Oenology Application R&D Director of PELLENC, will also give a talk about the new Smart Wine-Lyse technology, which uses partial evaporation by vacuum to preserve aromas and flavours, and the fingerprints of terroir. He will also be giving a talk about the new technology on the second day of the fair, accompanied by a tasting.
Immersive conversations
One of the great advantages of the WBWE fair is that the space makes it easy to go and speak to the people you want to meet.
And the major bulk brokers are present, who can help source the best material, and help create wines to match customer specifications.
With over 200 producers from 25 countries showcasing their products, there is a diverse selection of wines and spirits on offer.
The wine market is undergoing some of the most turbulent times in years, that both buyers and sellers must navigate with care. But times of change are also when some of the best opportunities present themselves — which makes the WBWE 2024 the place to be. It offers the widest selection of wines and spirits, as well as plenty of education and expertise.
