Baarsma continues its headhunt

by Ronald de Groot

Baarsma continues its takeover strategy in the Dutch market. After having sold the majority of its own shares to ABN Amro Capital last week in order to generate cash for further expansion, Baarsma has just taken a 70% share in Lovian, an importer

of ecological wines. Baarsma foresees a good future for ecological wines. Not only is there a steadily growing demand in the Dutch market, but customers are on average prepared to pay more for a bottle of ecological wine. Lovian is a leading importer in this field, which explains the new takeover by Baarsma. It probably won t be the last. Neighbouring countries will probably soon see new consolidations in the field of distribution and retail of wines.
