Meininger Verlag at ProWein

Meininger Verlag has prepared an extensive programme in Halls 1 and 4. In addition to master classes at the stand in Hall 4, there will be two tasting zones, one featuring award winners from the MUNDUS VINI wine competition, and the other in the new World of Zero section. And of course, the Meininger International Conference on Sustainability and the Meininger's Award both take place on the eve of the fair.

Meininger's International Wine Conference / Meininger Award

On Saturday 18 March Meininger's International Wine Conference will take place during the day, and from 6.30 p.m. the Meininger Award, which is invitation only, begins.

Under the slogan 'Excellence in Wine and Spirits', the who's who of the international wine scene will come together at the Meininger Award in the Hotel KÖ59 (formerly Hotel InterContinental). Personalities or companies from the wine and spirits industry will receive awards in the following categories:

  • National Wine Entrepreneur
  • International Wine Entrepreneur
  • Lifetime Achievement
  • Wine Family of the Year
  • Spirits Family of the Year
  • Jury Prize of Honour

MUNDUS VINI

A classic at ProWein: the MUNDUS VINI tasting zone in Hall 1, Stand E18, just behind the South Entrance. Here you will find award winners from the MUNDUS VINI Spring Tasting 2023. Between 21 February and 26 February 2023, around 7,500 wines from more than 40 countries were tasted in every category.

Two MUNDUS VINI award ceremonies will be held at the fair. The Best of Show will take place at the Meininger stand (Hall 4, C40) on Sunday at 11 am and the Best of Non-Alcoholic will be presented on the Monday at 10 am.

Top-class experts will present various topics.

All tastings will take place at the Meininger stand in Hall 4, Stand C40 - without advance booking. First come, first served.

Sunday, 19 March

11 am: MUNDUS VINI Best of Show Ceremony

Presentation of the special "Best of Show" prizes of the 32nd MUNDUS VINI Grand International Wine Award to the best wines of the competition. Moderated by Christian Wolf, Director Degustation. (in German)
 

12 am: Fascination Chasselas

Switzerland is the world's largest wine-growing country for Chasselas. Sommelière Yvonne Heistermann presents the many different facets of Switzerland's most important white wine grape. (in German)
 

1 pm: Kaiserstühl Burgundy Varieties

The volcanic soils of the Kaiserstuhl are a paradise for Burgundy varieties. In this exciting environment, the Kaiserstühl winegrowers produce exceptional qualities. Moderated by Clemens Gerke, editor-in-chief of WEINWIRTSCHAFT. (in German)
 

3 pm: Pays d'Oc IGP - Fashionable Rosé

From classic to surprising: Expert Christine Balais presents trend-setting wines from France's most important IGP for rosé. (in German)
 

4 pm: Prosecco DOC Rosé: When Pinot Nero meets Glera

The typically delicate bubbles of the blend of Glera and Pinot Nero is created by natural fermentation using to the Martinotti method. A perfect match! Moderated by Master of Wine Konstantin Baum. (in German)
 

5 pm: Champagne: Rosé in all its facets

The stylistic range of limited-edition rosé champagnes from Rosé d'Assemblage to Rosé de Saignée;  from charming Brut Rosé Non Vintage to Cuvée Prestige. Moderated by Sascha Speicher, Editor-in-Chief MEININGERS SOMMELIER. (in German)

Monday, 20 March

10 am: MUNDUS VINI Best of Non-Alcoholic

For the first time in the history of MUNDUS VINI, non-alcoholic products were judged and the finest will receive its award at ProWein. Moderated by Christian Wolf, Director Degustation. (in German)
 

11 am: Young Sommelier of the Year

In 2023, MEININGERS SOMMELIER will once again be awarding prizes to the three best up-and-coming sommeliers for outstanding sensory performance and wine knowledge. Moderated by Sascha Speicher, Editor-in-Chief MEININGERS SOMMELIER. (in German)
 

12 am: Much more than just a colour: European rosé wines PDO

Christoph Nicklas, editor of MEININGERS WEINWELT and MEININGERS SOMMELIER, presents the wide variety of European PDO rosés from Provence and Valtènesi.(in German)
 

1 pm: The Chenin Blancs of the Loire Valley

Loire expert Christoph Raffelt presents the Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley, in all its facets - from dry to sweet or as sparkling wine. (in German)
 

2 pm: Alcohol-free 2.0. Have you caught the trend?

Jörg Geiger has been creating alcohol-free enjoyment since 2003. With the non-alcoholic Grad-Wanderung range, he shows a completely new interpretation of complex, still and dry examples that go well with food.   (in German)

3 pm: Georgia - Cradle of Wine

Qvevri, Saperavi & Co - Georgia's is full of wine specialities. Exciting white and red autochthonous grape varieties will be served. Moderated by sommelièr and winemaker Inge Mainzer. (in German)
 

4 pm: Leithaberg DAC - Craft of Leithakalk and Slate

Together with Sascha Speicher, editor-in-chief of MEININGERS SOMMELIER, we will start a journey along the Leithaberg with its artisan wines from Leithakalk and Schiefer. (in German)

A tasting of outstanding and exceptional Swiss wines from well-known and autochthonous grape varieties. Moderated by sommelière Yvonne Heistermann. (in German)
 

1 pm: Piwis: forward-looking viticulture with a signature

Piwis are the new range of resistant varieties that facilitate viticulture with less treatments. Where do they come from? How good is the next generation of Piwis? The whole world of non-alcoholic wines and sparkling wines

In the World of Zero, in addition to the tasting zone, where there will be more than 160 wines, Meininger's will host panel discussions on the subject of zero alcohol.

Premiere of Meininger Verlag in cooperation with ProWein: In the ‘World of Zero’ tasting zone, the entire spectrum of the non-alcoholic segment can be found in one place.
