While Vinitaly remains the key event for buyers of Italian wine, there is another major trade fair in that country that brings together producers from Italy and elsewhere.
SIMEI - the International Oenological and Bottling Machinery Exhibition - is a biannual exhibition in Milan whose 29th edition was due to be held in 2021 but was forced by the pandemic.to be postponed for 12 months
Created by the Unione Italiana Vini, and originally focused on equipment for the production and packaging of wine, the fair has expanded to include other liquids ranging from cooking oils and sauces to water, beers and spirits.
Some 30,000 visitors are expected to attend the 2022 event which, like many others events, will focus on sustainability.
Apart from the exhibition, there will be a number of conferences including a round table focusing on amphoras in which Meininger’s associate editor, Robert Joseph will be a speaker. Other sessions will cover defects in white and rosé wines resulting from light and one that compares the wine, water, beer and spirits sectors. There will also be a forum hosted by the Women's World Wine Forum entitled 'Let's cultivate the future and peace'.
Forward-thinking is also a theme of SIMEI and the event will host an Innovation Challenge, and give awards for Technology Innovation Award, New Technology and Green Innovation. In the same spirit, alongside the I.G.A. Beer Challenge there will also be an Italian Grape Ale competition.
SIMEI will be held at the Fiera Milano from 15-18 November 2022
