Strong approval
A significant majority of wine drinkers in Germany are receptive to the concept of a reusable system: 88% appreciate the idea of offering wine in returnable glass bottles, with less than 5% rejecting it.
Deposit acceptance
A notable majority of German wine consumers, 75%, are willing to pay an additional deposit for these reusable bottles, with less than 4% opposing the deposit system. Around 60% consider a 50-cent bottle deposit to be a fair amount.
No significant objections were raised against implementing a returnable system, and many consumers are even prepared to pay up to 10% more for wines in returnable bottles.
Sustainable transport options
The concept of a reusable wine crate is also met with high approval, as approximately 70% of those surveyed find the idea appealing. A crate holding six bottles is the most popular choice, with over half of the respondents agreeing to a crate deposit of €4.50.
Wooden crates were more popular in design preference compared to plastic ones.
Preference for classic bottle designs
Consumers lean towards traditional bottle designs. Between 65-80% of respondents favor conventional bottle shapes over more unique designs.
